1)What is different about ZYMÖL waxes?
Zymöl contains no harsh petrochemical solvents, making it safe to apply on
all paint finishes including brand new cars. Zymöl has an extremely high
Carnauba content (22 to 74 Percent) and the Carnauba used is the very
highest available grade - Brazilian No. 1 White and Yellow Carnauba. This
gives both greater protection and increased depth of shine as compared with
other products. Zymöl is an enzyme mixture until it is actually applied to the
car. Only at that point, when oxygen acts as the catalyst, does Zymöl
become “wax” and start bonding to the car’s surface. Zymöl wax is very easy
to apply and remove and will not leave any white “residue” along seams, in
cracks or on black plastic trim.

2)What is Carnauba?
Carnauba is a vegetable wax (fat) obtained from the leaves of the Carnauba
Palm. Carnauba has an affinity to water, the ability to retain oil and has
excellent gloss properties making it applicable in a vast variety of industries.
Carnauba is widely used in cosmetics, particularly in stick applications.
Carnauba is the hardest natural wax and has lustrous composition making it
the leading choice for food coatings, pharmaceutical coatings and polishes.
Number One Grade Carnauba varies from a very pale yellow (white), through
a greenish brown (yellow). Carnauba is available in “lump,” powered or flaked
form.

3)Where does carnauba come from?
Carnauba Wax is exuded by the leaves of the Brazilian “Tree of Life”
(Copernica Cerifera) to conserve the moisture within the tree and leaves. This
“Carnauba Palm” grows in the northern and northeastern parts of Brazil along
the river banks, valleys, and lagoons where the soil is dark and fertile. The
tree needs very little water to grow, is very prolific and attains a height 40-50
feet after fifty years. The natives in the surrounding area use the various
products of the tree for many necessities in their lives; hence the name “Tree
of Life.” Of interest is the fact that only in northern Brazil does the Carnauba
Palm produce wax. The tree also grows in other parts of Brazil and adjacent
countries in South America, Ceylon, and Equatorial Africa, but owing to the
irregular rainy seasons of these places the tree fails to produce the wax.
Leaves containing the wax are cut off the tree during the period from
September to March. (This process is no way endangers the tree). The color
and quality are governed by the age of the leaves and the care used in
processing the wax. The leaves are soaked in kerosene or turpentine to
soften the wax, resulting in a thick liquid that then is poured into molds and
allowed to solidify. In addition to color, the wax is also graded according to
area of origin-Parnahyba, Piaui, Ceara, and Bahai. Carnauba “lumps” are
weighed and coded for sale to processors and refiners.

4)Why is Carnauba used in car wax?
Being a natural plant by-product, which will not react with any paint, Carnauba
provides a very hard film over your car’s surface to protect against airborne
contaminants such as acid rain residue, catalytic converter emissions, bug
tar, road grime, salt and bird droppings. Carnauba also dramatically reduces
paint oxidation by diffusing (refracting) UV and infrared radiation from the sun
which can oxidize and dull your paint finish.
NOTE: Pure Carnauba is harder than concrete.

5)How much Carnauba is in ZYMÖL wax?
Typical waxes contain three- to five-percent Carnauba (not necessarily
Brazilian No. 1 Carnauba) by volume. The minimum content of Brazilian No. 1
Carnauba in Zymöl waxes is:
Gel Polish -------------3 Percent
Cleaner Wax------- 1.5 Percent
Creame Wax ------- 25 Percent
Carbon Wax -------- 27 Percent
Japon Wax---------- 25 Percent
Saab Wax ----------- 25 Percent
Volvo Wax----------- 25 Percent
Concours Glaze --- 47 Percent
Destiny Glaze ------ 51 Percent
Atlantique Glaze --- 60 Percent
Vintage Glaze ------ 68 Percent
The greater the concentration of Carnauba the greater the level of protection
and the higher the level of shine.

6)Why does ZYMÖL blend coconut and banana oils with the car?
These natural oils are the necessary lubrication for spreading Zymöl and
serve as a moisture barrier on the paint preventing the paint from drying out
and oxidizing. The oils also contribute to depth of shine by providing the fatty
esters during the wax cure time.

7)What is Montan oil and why is it in the wax?
Pure Carnauba assumes a rock-like hardness and must be softened before
it can be applied. Most competitive waxes use harsh petrochemical solvents
to soften the Carnauba, but these solvents also re-enter the paint, potentially
softening it. Montan oil is a natural solvent derived from the sap of the
German Coal Black Evergreen tree. The oil is removed from the sap, spun
and distilled to make the Carnauba spreadable. Because it is highly spun
(very thin) it allows the Carnauba to enter and fill in microscopic scratches on
the painted surface yet will not react with the paint itself.

8)Why does ZYMÖL put an enzyme in the wax?
Propolis, derived from the thorax of bees, is the living enzyme culture in
Zymöl wax. Its function is to assure the Carnauba does not “bond” in the
container. Only when oxygen (air) is introduced during application does the
enzyme emollient (Zymöl) actually become “wax” and start bonding to the car
surface.

9)Where does the shine come from?
Some of the shine comes from pre-cleaning (with HD-Cleanse) the paint to
remove all the dirt, road grime and oxidized paint. This allows the natural
gloss of the paint to show through. The balance of the shine comes from the
Brazilian No. 1 Yellow Carnauba which, when blended with other organic materials,
becomes a transparent layer on top of the paint. This wax layer can be buffed with a
clean wipe towel to a brilliant shine. Waxing a surface that has not been properly
cleaned will only result in a shiny wax layer over dull, dirty paint - not the deep
smooth, crystalline finish Zymöl is capable of obtaining.

10)How does wax keep paint from Oxidizing?
First, it keeps airborne contaminants from reaching the paint and starting a
chemical reaction. Secondly, it diffuses (refracts) both UV and infrared
radiation from the sun. UV and infrared is absorbed by the pigment in the
paint causing it to overheat, dry out, dull and oxidize over time. A waxed car
will actually have a lower paint surface temperature than an unwaxed car.

11)Why should i use ZYMÖL wax applicators?
Our sponge applicator is specially manufactured without silicone. It is
designed to spread the wax easily and uniformly without scratching the paint
surface. Do not wet the sponge prior to applying the wax. Carnauba is
naturally hydroscopic (water absorbing,) which could cause the wax to “cloud”
or “streak” if combined with moisture during application.

12)What is the advantage of ZYMÖL estate glazes over ZYMÖL waxes?
The Estate Glazes will produce a deeper shine because they contain
Brazilian No. 1 White Carnauba in addition to No. 1 Yellow Carnauba. “White”
Carnauba is made from the sap of very young palmetto plants and is highly
transparent. The Estate Glazes also offer added protection because of the
increased concentration of Carnauba (47 Percent to 74 Percent). This greater
concentration provides better protection against airborne contaminants and
reduces paint oxidation by diffusing more UV and infrared radiation.
NOTE: the availability of Zymöl Estate Glazes is limited by the supply of
Brazilian No. 1 White Carnauba

13)Why clean the car with HD-Cleanse first?
Normal washing will not remove all airborne contaminants that settle on the
paint surface, nor will washing remove dull, oxidized paint. Zymöl HD-Cleanse
removes acid rain residue, road grime, old wax, oil residue, catalytic converter
emissions (hydrochloric and sulfuric acids), bugs, tar, bird droppings, silicone
treatments and oxidized paint. HD-Cleanse leaves the paint surface so clean
it squeaks and provides a fresh surface to which Zymöl waxes and glazes can
bond. HD-Cleanse will not remove clean paint or clear coatings.
In addition to increasing the depth of the wax shine, proper pre-wax
cleaning will assure uniformity of that shine. Wax applied over oily road grime
will not be as brilliant as wax applied over clean paint.

14)Why is HD-Cleanse better than other pre-wax cleaners?
Most competitive products incorporate abrasive “grit” to “scrub” the surface
clean. HD-Cleanse uses Montan oil (a natural solvent that will not penetrate
clean paint,) apricot kernel oil and lemon seed oil spun to a very thin
consistency. As you apply HD-Cleanse, the oils penetrate and break down
everything on the surface of the paint, encapsulating grime, impurities and
dead paint so they can be wiped off without scratching the top paint layer.
HD-Cleanse uncovers a lower level of paint with life and luster without any
solvents, abrasives or caustic materials.

15)Should you HD-Cleanse and wax a clear-coated car?
Yes, absolutely! Clear coats are very thin layers of clear paint (some with
urethane) sprayed over the top color layer. Clear coatings become
contaminated and oxidize just like regular paint. Without protection, most
clear coats will oxidize and wear away within 24 months, exposing the top
color layer. Protecting the clear coat with a good wax may or may not
increase the shine, but it will preserve the natural shine of the paint and keep
it looking like new for many, many years.

16)Should you HD-Cleanse the entire car before you wax it?
Yes. You should HD-Cleanse the entire car, sections at a time, and wax it
without any problems. The wax should be applied to small areas and buffed
prior to drying.
